North Shore High School Debuts New Track & Field Stadium
The opening ceremony of The North Shore High School Stadium Track & Field, in Glen Head, NY, took place on Saturday, September 22nd, during the 2012 Homecoming Celebration & Carnival.
The $3.8 million complex consists of a new 100,000-square-foot multi-use athletic field; an eight-lane running track; a 1,700-square-foot concession area, and bathroom and storage facilities.
“We are delighted with our new track and stadium field, and look forward to supporting our students’ athletic development for years come,” said North Shore School District Superintendent, Ed Melnick.

The new sports complex replaced and expanded the deteriorated facilities which were insufficient for the needs of the district’s 2,850 students.

The new track will come as a benefit to the two-time state Class A Champion North Shore Varsity Women’s Cross Country team, as well as the North Shore Winter and Spring track teams.
The teams combined have won nine consecutive Nassau County championships.
John Hall, Facilities and Operations Manager, said “The field was completed and was in use for the Spring Athletics Program to the enjoyment of our students and coaches.”
Funding for design and construction of the project was raised by the Viking Foundation, the district’s capital reserve, a budgetary appropriation and a grant provided by New York State’s Senator Carl L. Marcellino and Assembly Member Chuck Lavine.
BBS Architects served the district as architect and engineer, and Savin Engineers served as construction manager for the project.
